2:47 am - Want one?
Hey all,

If anybody wants to moderate or even edit a section of the site, definitely let me know.

Moderation would be fairly minimal, since users can block each other and hide unhelpful content very easily. You would basically be able to delete illegal and prohibited content, and move NSFW material and hate speech into the appropriate "no no" area. Also, your votes for story rankings would count for a lot more.

Really, there isn't a lot to it, unless you want to actually add top stories, too. That requires some skill at writing headlines, teasers and editing images. I know that Rachel S. (who never uses LJ anymore,) wants to handle sports, and even wants to edit it from time to time.

Since the site will start out with an audience of zero, and won't make any money for a while, I can't pay anyone at the moment. So basically you just get to be that subject's big shot.

The categories that are available are:

Entertainment
US News
Science/Technology
Weird
Modern Life

Wow.

So Palin's speech would have been great... But then they started to overplay their hand. And that's pretty hard to do, given that yesterday people were implying she'd have to drop out because... her daughter is pregnant? "How can she be President? Her daughter's knocked up! Knocked up!"

I will say, however, that Democratic strategists who were telling me I was crazy yesterday for saying she wasn't to be underestimated are now shitting themselves and calling it a "masterpiece." But, then, what do they know?

12:33 am - And we thought they were saving this stuff for Hillary...
Remember the "Clinton Body Count," a list of people that allegedly died after seeing Bill Clinton, I dunno, rape or murder or whatever? Well, now we have:

"The Obama Death List"

Man, I totally want to get that book that doesn't exist, by that person who never lived, about a man who was like a state legislator when it wasn't published. He killed her over it, you know.

1:34 pm - Is anybody going...
to Super Con this weekend? It's not exactly the biggest geekfest out there, but you can meet the cast of mst3k AND kick the kid from E.T.

7:44 am - Old as the stars.
When I was in third grade, we had to memorize the planets by distance from the sun. The list was: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Sometimes, Pluto and Neptune were reversed, and it was always noted that the asteroid belt was between Mars and Jupiter. We would talk about the days of Galileo, when they thought moons of Jupiter (and later Saturn) were planets, as if the world were ruled by foolish superstition.

Today, that list would go: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Or, if you counted the dwarf planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres (in the asteroid belt,) Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Eris. There are currently over 70 more candidates for classification as dwarf planet in the solar system, a few inside the asteroid belt, but most within the Kuiper belt. When I was a kid, we didn't even know there was a Kuiper belt. It's 20 times the width of the asteroid belt and about 100 times as massive, and we didn't even know it was there until I was 12.

Science was totally cool until it started making me feel old.

10:02 pm - Kylie in Entertainment Weekly.

Conquering America still isn't a priority for you -- but what about your huge gay following here?

Can I just apologize to them? They're always saying, "Will you please come back?" with that pleading look. As soon as I can, I will. It might not be a huge tour, but I'm trying... I'm also working on a film musical, just getting the story line done. That's a tall mountain to climb.

12:04 am - Blogtacular.
So, my Internet died yesterday. It came on a bit last night, but was fairly spotty. Nothing really usual, since I have Comcast.

Then, today, it went out. And a bit later, the power died. Neighbors, apparently, heard a small explosion up the street. There were PG&E and Comcast trucks up at the box around the corner, so now I'm wondering if Comcast didn't do something that jacked up the power. But, that could just be my crazy anti-Comcast bias showing through.

In a way, it was probably a good thing it happened. I got 7,000 ready-to-move words written before my batteries gave out, which is next to impossible, really.

The down side is that I had to go out to dinner tonight. This gave me a fantastic excuse to eat about 1,200 calories in fatty Italian food at Melo's instead of a 400 calorie meal at home. Tasty but very naughty.

I've lost 15 lbs since I got sick last month--11 then, and four more since, just by watching what I eat. I want to keep that moment going. Now, remember, I'm 6'4", and the most I've ever weighed is 185 lbs, so all that really means is that you can see more of my hip bones. And that my ass has kind of gone away. Bummer. (Get it?) But the great thing is that my tummy is much nicer than it's been in years and years, I must say. (I'd say it's still about 7 lbs away from how it looked when skie used to make his friends feel it. Although I'm aiming to keep my way hotter arms.) Anyway, I need to keep it up. It makes me very, very happy. And, yes, I know I'm not by any stretch of the imagination overweight. I'm just vain.

From the Catholic News Service review of The Golden Compass:

"The film contains intense but bloodless fantasy violence, anti-clerical subtext, standard genre occult elements, a character born out of wedlock and a whiskey-guzzling bear."

I was just curious because, you know, the books are kind of anti-Catholic church.

This is mostly for skie, who has probably already seen it a zillion times.

A creepy ex co-worker was apparently checking my LJ. So, it's all friends-only now. Except this entry. 'Cause, you know, people should know when they're creepy.
